Problem 8The model that cannot see a carbon price

L2.2.07 · L2.2.08 · L2.2.03

A model validator at Example Bank plc

A steel maker borrows €1,200m and earns EBITDA of €300m. It emits 1.5 million tonnes of CO₂ a year. A carbon price of €120 a tonne is coming, and it expects to pass only 25% of the cost to customers. The bank's PD model, built on 2010–2019 data, uses last year's accounts only, so it rates the borrower exactly as before.
